Dental Hygiene Services at Alpha Dental Care

Even with daily brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar can still build up over time. Dental hygiene therapy offers a deep, professional clean to remove bacteria and keep your gums healthy – helping to prevent gum disease and support long-term oral health.

What is Dental Hygiene Therapy?

Dental hygiene therapy (also known as dental cleaning or oral hygiene treatment) is a professional service designed to clean below the gum line, where regular brushing can’t reach. It removes trapped food, plaque, and tartar to help prevent gum disease and improve overall oral hygiene.

At Alpha Dental Care, hygiene therapy treatments are available through our Dental Essentials scheme or privately during a routine check-up. Treatment is carried out by a qualified dental hygienist, who can also offer tailored advice on brushing technique, flossing, and the best at-home care tools for your mouth.
Some Alpha practices also offer Airflow® therapy – a modern stain-removal technique using air and water pressure with a fine powder.

How does Hygiene Therapy work?

Types of Dental Hygiene Services we offer

Standard Dental Hygiene Therapy

A professional clean that removes plaque, tartar, and bacteria from above and below the gum line. This is essential for maintaining good oral health and preventing gum disease. Standard hygiene therapy is available through our Dental Essentials scheme – check with your local practice for details.

Airflow Therapy

An advanced stain-removal treatment that uses a gentle jet of air, water, and fine powder to polish the teeth. It’s ideal for removing surface stains caused by tea, coffee, red wine, or smoking. Airflow may be included as part of your hygiene appointment if prescribed, or offered as a separate service – availability may vary by location.

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common condition that can lead to gum recession, tooth loss, and bone damage if left untreated. Regular hygiene therapy plays a crucial role in preventing and managing gum disease. If you’re experiencing bleeding gums, bad breath, or sensitivity, it’s important to book an appointment with your dental team as soon as possible.
