Dental check-ups, also referred to routine dental exams, are regular appointments designed to assess your overall oral health. They are recommended for patients of all ages, including child dentistry to help identify problems like tooth decay, gum disease, or early signs of oral cancer before they become more serious. Dental check-ups are offered across Alpha Dental Care practices under both NHS Band 1, Dental Essentials scheme Option 1 and traditional private care options.

Step 1:
Initial conversation

Your dentist will ask about your medical history, any changes since your last visit, and if you have any specific concerns.

Step 2: Full Examination

We’ll check your teeth, gums, and soft tissue for signs of decay, gum disease or other issues.

Step 3: Oral cancer screening

A routine inspection of your tongue, cheeks and other soft tissues.

Step 4: Digital X-rays

If required, we can offer to check for any issues below the surface.

Dental Check-up FAQ's

A standard NHS dental check-up falls under Band 1, which costs £27.40. This includes a dental examination, advice from your dentist, any necessary X-rays, and a scale and polish if clinically required.

Though most patients require a check-up every 12 to 24 months, in the case of emergencies or a more prompt appointment, our Dental Essentials scheme ensures NHS-standard care without the waiting lists.
