Periodontal Therapy

If your gums bleed when you brush, feel tender, or appear to be receding, periodontal therapy can gently restore their health.

What is Periodontal Therapy?

This treatment involves deep cleaning of the teeth and gums to remove plaque and tartar from below the gumline. By reducing bacteria and smoothing the tooth roots, it helps gums to heal and prevents further bone loss. With regular therapy and good home care, gum health can often be stabilised so you can keep your natural teeth for longer. Healthy gums are the foundation of a strong and lasting smile.

For ongoing gum health, we may recommend regular routine dental exams alongside periodontal care.

Periodontal FAQ's

Periodontal therapy is available on the NHS when clinically required, and privately for ongoing tailored maintenance.

Early gum disease (gingivitis) can often be reversed with professional cleaning and good home care. More advanced gum disease can’t be fully reversed, but treatment can control it and prevent further damage.
The treatment is usually carried out with local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. You may feel some tenderness afterwards, but this soon settles.
This varies from person to person. Some patients need treatment every few months, while others can maintain their gum health with less frequent visits.

Periodontal therapy is available on the NHS when clinically needed. Private costs depend on the level of treatment required. For full details, please contact your dentist.
